Mr. Makarem Sobhi Batterjee has worked to improve and expand the delivery of healthcare services in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Today, he is Executive Vice Chairman & CEO of the largest private healthcare organization in the MENA region, Bait Al Batterjee Holding Company and Saudi German Hospitals Group, whose activities include hospital management, medical facility construction, pharmaceutical and device distribution, and professional medical education. Under his leadership, the organization is implementing an ambitious long-term expansion plan that will expand its footprint to 30 world-class hospitals and five medical colleges across the region.
A seasoned entrepreneur, Mr. Makarem Sobhi Batterjee brings a visionary perspective on the evolution of the region’s “soft infrastructure” of healthcare and education. His insights into the interplay of healthcare, economic development and social change also inspired him to launch Shababco Enterprises, which specializes in consumer wellness initiatives as well as support for entrepreneurs. Mr. Batterjee graduated from California State University, Long Beach with a degree in Health Care Administration, and studied at the Thunderbird School of Global Management before earning an MBA in the Executive Programme at the top-ranked London Business School.
He was chosen by the World Economic Forum in 2008 as a Young Global Leader and is active in numerous international business organizations such as the Bretton Woods Committee. He was honored to be named Middle East Young Entrepreneur of the Year in 2009. Forging connections and partnerships is the foundation of Mr. Batterjee’s commitment to innovation. He served as the Founding President of the original Saudi chapter of the global Entrepreneurs’ Organization and today offers venture capital funding to sharia-conscious young businesses via Shababco. His civic contributions focus on the empowerment of women and youth and the promotion of community health.
